| Truly Living Well (TLW) traces its roots to founder Rashid Nuri’s undergraduate years at Harvard College. At that time, his future in laws introduced him to Wilson’s, a full working farm in the middle of a Boston suburb. Since its founding in 1884, Wilson's high quality food has always been just one part of a larger social and educational experience. Wilson’s continues to be a focal point of the community and was an inspiration for Rashid’s career in agriculture. After 40 years of learning how food is produced and distributed in more than 35 countries, Rashid’s thinking came full circle with the founding of TLW. Rashid has identified three high priority needs:
TLW Center for Natural Urban Agriculture is a 501(c)3 non-profit. TLW’s vision is to use quality local food production as a platform to provide a range of educational and entertainment activities. This will return a measure of enjoyment and community involvement to the production and consumption of food. Since its launch in 2006, Truly Living Well has grown approximately 10,000 pounds of food annually on small plots of donated land within the City of Atlanta. The Company has developed strong support among consumers, institutions and community advocates not only for its vision, but most satisfyingly for the superior quality of its food. Management Team K. Rashid Nuri - Rashid provides overall executive and operational leadership to the Company. Rashid possess over forty years of experience in both industrial and organic agriculture, where he has managed public, private and community-based food and agriculture businesses in over 30 countries. Through his travels, Rashid has observed and learned about local food economies around the world. His experience has included managing farms in excess of 13,000 acres as well as more than 12 years with agricultural giant Cargill. Rashid also served four years as a senior executive in the Clinton administration as the Deputy Administrator of the Farm Service Agency and Foreign Agricultural Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. Rashid is a graduate of Harvard College, where he studied Political Science and holds a M.S. in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Massachusetts and currently serves on the boards of Georgia Organics and the Atlanta Local Food Initiative Eugene Cooke – Eugene leads farm operations. He has been growing food and developing creative, community partnerships for over a decade. His belief is that food abundance systems and artistic expression are the keys to vibrant communities. Eugene has assisted in developing gardens and mini- farms in California, Georgia, Washington D.C., Oregon, Florida and Kenya. Eugene has been engaging the youth and adults in educational gatherings and hands on learning experiences to help cultivate the nurturing sensibility that is crucial to our human evolution. He has been teaching visual art, environmental and agricultural science to children and adults for over 10 years. Eugene’s artwork has been collected by California State University at Fullerton, University of Colorado and many private collectors. |
